North Lindsey College was able to source and start an apprentice with Skymark Packaging International Ltd within 10 days recently. Mark Coome, Selection, Training & Development Coordinator, contacted the College and enquired about a business administration apprentice.
One of the business development team visited Skymark, identified the job requirements, identified three individuals who the College felt were suitable applicants for the role, interviews were held, start date agreed and enrolment took place – and all within 10 days.
Mark said ‘I initially approached Palvinder on the 8th August 2014, by telephone, with the task of supplying Skymark with an Administrative Apprentice. We had a very short deadline on the placement after a long serving member of staff left the business and we had a short term cover in place. Palvinder took on board our specific requirements and within an hour of our meeting, we were supplied with the CVs. As you can see from the timescales, this was an exceptional effort on the Colleges part. They immediately grasped the urgency of our situation and offered us three viable alternatives to fulfil our requirements. Lucy has settled immediately into our environment and is already making her mark. I am delighted with the service that we have received from the College and look forward to conducting more business with them in the future.’
Lucy Barley had been in an apprenticeship with an employer which had not been successful. The College had supported her by putting her on a work experience placement and supporting her to complete her qualifications through their Southbank Centre at Frodingham Road, Scunthorpe. Lucy said ‘I thoroughly enjoyed my time at the Southbank Centre as I was able to learn new skills. All the staff were very welcoming and helped and guided me to be able to complete my NVQ. The department that I found myself mostly in was Employability where they helped me update my CV, with applying for job interviews and completing job application forms. Throughout my time at North Lindsey College Palvinder Salhan the Business Development Officer was constantly looking to see if she could find me a Level 3 Apprenticeship within Business Administration to further my education. Due to her hard work and perseverance I found an apprenticeship with Skymark Packaging International Limited. I have now been here for several weeks and am really enjoying it and learning new skills and developing the ones that I already have.’
North Lindsey College provides a broad range of apprenticeships across sector and offers roll on-roll off provision on the vast majority of qualifications. This means that employers and individuals can start an apprenticeship at any time during the year.
